Preventive Cardiology
At our practice, we offer personalized, evidence-based care to help lower your risk of heart disease and its complications. Even if you don’t have any risk factors right now, a preventive cardiology program can still benefit you by teaching you how to keep those risks low as you get older. We take the time to assess your individual risk by looking at your personal risk factors and family health history to create a tailored plan to reduce your risk.
Preventive cardiology care is beneficial to all and is especially helpful if you have a family history of heart disease or struggle to manage conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, or cholesterol. It’s also important if you have controllable risk factors, like smoking or a poor diet, or if you have uncontrollable ones, such as older age or a family history of heart disease. We’re here to support you at every stage of life.
General Cardiology
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women in the U.S., and we’re here to help you manage it. We treat a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, offering care tailored to your specific needs. If you experience symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain or tightness, heart palpitations, swelling in the legs, dizziness, or fainting, it’s important to have an evaluation.
We’re dedicated to improving the health of everyone living with cardiovascular disease, whether it’s coronary heart disease, heart rhythm issues, heart valve problems, congestive heart failure, or dilated aortas. We also focus on helping people with risk factors like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease. Your heart health matters, and we’re here to provide the care and support you need to stay healthy.
Sports Cardiology
Whether you’re a weekend warrior or an elite athlete, we’re here to provide the expert cardiovascular care you need to stay active and healthy. We offer customized evaluations, treatment plans, and exercise prescriptions tailored to your specific cardiovascular risks, age, sport, and goals. Our goal is to keep you performing at your best while ensuring your safety.
Sports cardiology evaluations are especially beneficial for those needing preparticipation screenings, managing symptoms, or returning to play after a heart-related issue. Whether you’re an athlete who wants a risk assessment or you’re dealing with a known heart condition, we’re here to help. Some high schools, colleges, and professional teams even require these screenings to ensure athletes are healthy enough to participate.
Our cardiac performance lab allows us to assess your fitness and diagnose heart or vascular conditions by considering your athletic training history. We help athletes with cardiovascular conditions safely meet their performance goals, prescribing treatments and exercises that won’t hinder their activity. Regular cardiovascular check-ups and specialty care are essential, as exercise alone doesn’t guarantee immunity from heart disease. We’re dedicated to supporting you in your pursuit of optimal health and performance.
In-House Testing
We offer a range of in-house tests to thoroughly assess your heart and cardiovascular health. Our services include Electrocardiograms (ECG) to monitor heart rhythms, Echocardiograms for detailed heart imaging, and Spirometry to evaluate lung function.
For comprehensive assessment of exercise-related symptoms and to evaluate how the heart and lungs respond to exercise, we conduct Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (VO2 max testing) and also offer Exercise Treadmill Stress Tests and Stress Echocardiography, when appropriate. Holter & Event Monitoring allow us to assess your heart rate and rhythm over extended periods of time.
These tests help us create personalized, effective care plans to optimize your health and performance.
Performance Testing
Our performance testing helps you understand your body’s exercise physiology as we know that predicted equations are not helpful to create individual training programs. Our VO2 Max testing measures your maximum oxygen consumption during exercise, giving us valuable insights into your cardiovascular health and endurance capabilities. Data from this test can help guide your training and improve athletic performance.
Additionally, we offer Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) testing, which helps us determine how many calories your body burns at rest. This information is helpful for creating personalized nutrition and fitness plans that align with your goals. Whether you’re training for a race or simply looking to improve your health, these tests provide the data to help you perform at your best.
We also offer Lactate Threshold Testing for those looking for a more detailed analysis of their exercise physiology to help guide their training.
VO2 Max Testing
Want to take your fitness to the next level? Our VO2 Max testing helps you understand your body’s limits and optimize performance. Whether you’re an athlete or just looking to improve endurance, we provide personalized insights to help you train smarter and achieve your goals. Ready to push your potential? Let’s get started!
Second Opinions
Dr. Shah is an internationally recognized expert in cardiology and at Sports & Performance Cardiology we often see patients seeking second opinions. We take the time to personally review outside data/imaging and work with you to address your concerns. This may be to confirm a diagnosis or treatment plan, suggest an alternate diagnosis or treatment plan after our review, or, if we feel your symptoms/issues are not related to your heart, to help recommend the next steps in your care.
